On a beautiful June day the lads from our NYPD Gaelic Football Club played their FDNY rivals. The venue for the well played match was at historic Gaelic Park in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. The game was a fundraiser where the PD players donated their half from the gate and other sales to benefit Sgt. Justin McCormack. Justin is still recovering from a debilitating stroke he suffered late last year. The lengthy rehabilitation he requires comes with substantial medical costs. Hopefully the generosity of the Gaelic Football along with the great support of Justin's many friends from the job and the Irish-American community will ease some of the financial burden. Justin has already made great strides, it was just this past St. Patrick's Day that he made his way up 5th Avenue with his fellow Emerald Society members while still in a wheelchair. His friends and admirers were glad to see him mingling amongst the fans at Gaelic Park with just the aid of a cane. Everyone is looking forward to Justin McCormack's full recovery.
After the game finished an Irish party followed with the crowd enjoying the camaraderie that comes with the sport and our heritage. A special thanks to Glenn Lynch for sending us some nice photos.
