The NYPD Emerald Society conducted the Annual High School Scholarship exam on Saturday January 14, 2012 at the Police Academy. A total of twenty-seven eighth-graders participated in the challenging two hour examination. The group was made up of seventeen boys and ten girls. The chairwoman Rosie Kelly was assisted by a committee of Carrie Reilly and Megan O'Malley along with another half dozen Board Officers in organizing the morning's proceedings. Most importantly there was plenty of coffee and breakfast knosh for the parents as the kids labored over the competitive test. President Sean Patterson addressed the group as they gathered in the auditorium. He welcomed everyone and thanked them all for arriving punctually for the early morning registration. He then wished all the kids good luck as they exited on the way to a classroom upstairs. It appeared that nearly half the parents were Retired Members. The annual exam is open to all dues paying General and Retired Members with a child entering high school in September. The top test-takers will be recognized as guests of honor at our May 7, 2012 General Meeting at St. Robert Bellarmine Parish in Queens.
