TIMMY BLACK HONORED

On Saturday evening November 7, 2015 NYPD Emerald Society Board Officer Timmy Black (VP-Queens North) was honored by the Long Island Chapter of Mustache for Kids. The charitable organization does fantastic work raising thousands of dollars every year for juvenile cancer care at the world renowned Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital. Each autumn Mustache for Kids invites volunteers to grow some facial hair above their upper lip and seek out contributions benefiting ailing children. They have an intriguing catchphrase, Ask Me About My Mustache emblazoned on buttons, it's a proven lead-in for explaining the goals of these do-gooders. Each year they gain the support of not only friends and family but co-workers and often complete strangers as this tremendous effort prospers. Timmy Black was bestowed with the honorable title of 2015 Stache-of-the-Year during the fun night held at the Long Beach Hotel. At times Timmy was both praised and roasted all in good humor, funny cigar songs were sung, numerous donated raffles were drawn, a guest was prodded into shaving his beloved mustache influenced by a wild bidding process and great music was provided by the band Crucial Experiment. Chaos and charity were well blended during the fast paced program. In the last 5 years Timmy has raised well over $30,000. For 2015 he raised $5035, which ironically was the number of Timmy's Police Officer shield! By the end of the evening that incredible amount was eclipsed with an additional $800 collected in the dining room. With great fanfare Timmy was led into the room by NYPD Bagpipers Rob Gault and Dave Nisthaus. In his speech he thanked all those who made contributions which led to his being honored. He was quick to thank his NYPD co-workers as well as his many friends in the Emerald Society for all their help and encouragement the last 5 years. Timmy says he is so thankful for the 4 gentlemen who started the Long Island Chapter and continue to expand on it, Vinny Leis, Billy Kupferman, James Bodgman and Justin Fitzmartin along with the many others who have joined this amazing group. Among the proudest people in the room were Timmy's parents Nancy and Jerry Black along with his sisters Nancy and Megan. It certainly was a special night for the entire Black Family and all those who are proud to have Timmy Black as a kind and trusted friend.
