NYPD Emerald Society President Sean Patterson was a guest at Fordham University’s WFUV radio station on Sunday January 22, 2012. During the station’s distinguished Ceol nGael “Music of the Irish” program Patterson was interviewed by the lovely and talented Dee-Jays who host the long-running Sunday afternoon show. Hosts Colleen Taylor and Tara Cuzzi made Sean feel right at home while inside Studio-A. Sean explained the origins and history of the Emerald Society since its charter was established back in 1953. Also on hand were our good friends from The Moonshiners Band. The seven members group had some surprising news as they announced their renaming. The group will now be known as “A Band of Rogues”. Patterson described the great working relationship between the Emeralds and the newly-christened Rogues. The band has played at numerous Society events for nearly a decade now. They have become a real favorite of our members while entertaining at Winter Weekends, Dinner Dances and St. Patrick’s celebrations. During the program the Rogues performed two brand new original songs live. Molly-Molly was belted out by lead singer Sean McNally and Take Me Back to Kerry was crooned by Tommy Burns. Band members Joe O’Brien, Bobby Lee Moller, Frank Banafato, Meredith Rachel and Rich Shields fused their skills into an outstanding sound during the debut performance of these two terrific compositions. A Band of Rogues fans will have much to look forward to, as Joe O’Brien previewed their busy upcoming schedule of Emerald events, along with numerous Irish Festivals throughout the year. They hope to release a new CD sometime this spring with many original tunes. President Patterson also spoke about our scholarship programs and our fundraising events that support them. He advised on the 47th Annual Winter Weekend at the Villa Roma Resort February 16th thru 20th during Presidents Weekend. The Dinner Dance on Friday, February 24th at Leonard’s of Great Neck honoring our Irishman-of-the-Year Chief Joseph Fox. The St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Post-Parade Party were also discussed. Patterson also welcomed anyone interested in donating to our scholarships, they are invited to contact us through our Website. This appearance was Sean Patterson’s second in the past few years at WFUV and things went smoothly. The show’s two producers Liz Noonan and Maggie Dolan are great friends to the NYPD Emerald Society and their efforts are greatly appreciated.
