Emerald Society President Richard Wall and his Board Officers have been busy making final plans for St. Patrick's Day. This will be a very special year for our Society. On March 17th in NYC, the Parade will be lead by Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly, who has received the distinguished title of Parade Grand Marshall. Out in front of the "Finest Emeralds" will be our world famous Pipes & Drums. The Band is celebrating a milestone 50th Anniversary this year. We are sure that Bandmaster Brian Coughlan, Drum Major Phil Thompson and Pipe Major Joe O'Carroll will have the sharpest kilted-contingent this side of the River Shannon! Columns of blue uniformed men and women will proudly follow the Band's cadence up 5th Avenue, with an army of our Retired Members to the rear. Along the route countless numbers of parade goers will hail our long line, which stretches across the lengths of Manhattan's busiest thoroughfare. After the Parade our celebration of New York's Patron Saint will continue at Pier 90. There thousands will gather for The Big Apple's biggest party. Along with our own membership many more will join in from Police Departments across the country. As well as our friends from the north who make the trek from Canada. We are also expecting a large delegation from Ireland's Garda Force. The afternoon's entertainment will feature The Moonshiners Band. An unrivaled and riveting performance by our Pipes & Drums will cap the day. All food and beverages are included with entry on to the Pier. So DVR the world's greatest parade and enjoy a momentous March 17th with the NYPD Emerald Society! More information
