The January, 2010 meeting of the NYPD Emerald Society was held at Bishop Ford High School, in Brooklyn. The recent deep-freeze in NYC, did not deter the heartier members of our Society from trekking to Windsor Terrace. Many were anxious to purchase their 2010 membership cards and after all "old man winter" was only in its teens. Some were just elated to find parking available in a Brooklyn neighborhood. It was a big night for our new President Richard Wall, as he presided over his very first meeting. Our "newest" Past President Timmy Bergin looked very much at ease with his brand new title and no longer donning a jacket and tie. The meeting proceeded smoothly, with various reports and events announced by Board Officers. VP Timmy Black now freshly clean-shaved reported that his latest "Mustache for Kids" endeavor raised over $3,000. He thanked everyone from the Emeralds who contributed to this tremendous cause. He also had a quick slide show regarding the program, which supports children with cancer. Upon the completion of routine business, President Wall returned to the microphone. He told everyone that he was extremely honored to serve as president and that he would work his hardest to continue the organization's success. He also recalled that as a youngster, he lived just a block away from tonight's meeting at the high school. This Brooklyn spot certainly made the evening a little more special for him. Throughout the evening Wall continued to receive congratulations and well-wishes from his many friends. This month marks 28 years of NYPD service for the sergeant. His 2 year term as our #1 Emerald assures that Rich will be at least a 30 year veteran. Our Emerald members have much to look forward too, with Wall's leadership and years of experience. Our next meeting returns us to Manhattan and hopefully a winter thaw.
