Message from John Gerrity, President
January, 2006

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I am John Gerrity and it is my honor to be the new Emerald Society President. I hope that everyone had a joyous holiday season.

The first order of business is to thank Mike Murphy for two exceptional years the President. Mike’s active leadership is one of the reasons that the Emerald Society is considered the premier fraternal organization both within the NYPD and on a national level.

Your newly elected Emerald Society Board is preparing for another busy year. We began the new year with our annual pilgrimage to Brooklyn. As usual, we received a warm welcome at Bishop Ford High School a little cold precipitation outside. On Saturday January 7, 2006, the Emerald Society in conjunction with the National Conference of Law Enforcement Emerald Societies hosted the C.O.P.S. to Cops 10-13 benefit at Mount Saint Michael’s Academy in the Bronx. I would like to thank all of the organizations and individuals that supported this worthy cause. Moving forward the Annual Winter Weekend at the Nevelle is fast approaching and sure to be a sellout.

Our 53rd Annual Dinner Dance will be held at Leonard’s of Great Neck on Friday February 24, 2006. The 2006 Emerald Society Irishman of the year is Desmond Stafford. Desi is currently the P.B.A. Manhattan North Trustee. As most of you know Desi was an Emerald Society Board member for many years, although Desi left the Board he has not left the Emerald Society. If all my decisions as president are as easy as this one, I will have a good two years.

At this time, our annual membership drive is under way, if you have not done so already please take the time to renew your membership today. If every Emerald Society member signed up just one new member, we would double the size and strength of this proud organization.

I would like to thank you for your continued support and look forward to seeing everyone at a future Emerald Society event.

Fraternally,

John Gerrity
President, NYPD Emerald Society
