It was a great privilage and honour that my 5 colleagues and I got the opportunity to participate in your fine parade in New York this year. We are all members of An Garda Siochana and to be able to join members of the NYPD in the march down 5th. Avenue has been one of the highlights of our careers. The reception we received and the hospitality we were shown was exceptional. The fantastic sound of the pipes and drums put the hair standing on the back of our necks. I am a recent beneficiary of the monies collected from throughout the US, of all Emerald Societies that contributed to the Katrina Fund. I am aware that the NYPD Emerald Society played a major role in that fund raiser. I will be eternally grateful for what your members, my brothers and sisters, did to help me in my time of need. My house in east New Orleans received close to five feet of water inside and it lingered for over two weeks. My wife Cyndi, a civilian, who is also employed with the NOPD, and I, lost all of our possessions. We purchased another house in a neighboring parish and the funds you helped collect will be used to make it another home. I am proud of my Irish heritage and wish that my mom (Maiden name of O'Rourke) was still with us to see what a proud people can do for each other. God Bless each and every one of you.
