The Echo's Peter McDermott uncovers Anderson's early years before coming on the job. The interview continues with his rise through the ranks, leading to his current position as the Commanding Officer of the Police Academy. CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WORLD SERIES CHAMPION NEW YORK YANKEES
The NYPD Emerald Society salutes the Yankees for a great season filled with 103 exciting wins. Their superb play continued through the playoffs as they defeated the Minnesota Twins and the Los Angeles Angels. With great teamwork the Bronx Bombers culminated their memorable run by knocking off last year's champs the Philadelphia Phillies. Speaking of teamwork, it was another outstanding performance by the NYPD coordinating the Yankees' Victory Parade up the "Canyon of Heroes."
St. Patrick's Day Parade Grand Marshall Announcement October 5, 2009
Members of the NYPD Emerald Society Board were on hand for the press conference announcing Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly as the Grand Marshall for 2010 St. Patrick's Day Parade. The Tuesday October 5, 2009 media event was held at the Park Avenue offices of the Irish Consulate. With many dignitaries gathered Parade Chairman John Dunleavy made the official announcement at the podium of a jam-packed room. Dunleavy stated "We are truly delighted that Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly has been unanimously selected as the 2010 Grand Marshall. He is a man who is beloved in the Irish-American community in the United States. He is an outstanding Irish-American who has devoted a huge amount of his considerable energy and charisma to building enduring and durable ties between Ireland and America and the rest of the world. We know his selection will be a widely popular one."
Incoming Emerald Society President Richard Wall led our group to congratulate PC Kelly. From the NYPD unions were LBA President Tom Sullivan and SBA President Ed Mullins. NYPD "brass" included Chief of Department Joe Esposito, Chief Ray Diaz, Chief Kathleen Ryan and Chief Tom Sweeney. Bandmaster Brian Coughlan was joined by Pension Director Tony Garvey. Former PCs Robert McGuire and Richard Condon and former Mayor Ed Koch also stopped by. The current "Rose-of-Tralee" Ashling Colton of WFUV radio fame joined in for the great news. Everyone was certainly surprised to see Jennifer Lopez and her husband Marc Anthony in attendance. The couple are close friends and admirers of Mr. Kelly. The PC was happy to share his memorable day as he gladly posed for countless photos. His wife Veronica and his 2 sons Greg and Jimmy along with his brother Donald Kelly all looked on with immense pride. It is sure to be a grand day for all next March 17th, as the 249th St. Patrick's Day Parade is led up 5th Avenue by New York's "top cop."
